TEHRAN -- The Tbilisi State University honored the Georgian Iranologist Lili Zorzoliani during a ceremony on Monday.
Zorzoliani received the Ivane Javakhishvili Medal for her achievements in Persian studies at the ceremony.
A large number of Georgian literati, academics, and Orientalists attended the event.
Zorzoliani has been the head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature of Tbilisi State University since 2006.
She is an expert on the Shahnameh, the masterpiece of the Persian epic poet Ferdowsi, and its Georgian translations. She has compiled over 40 articles on Persian literature.
The medal, which is granted by the Tbilisi State University to prominent scholars and academics, is named after the Georgian historian Ivane Javakhishvili 1876--1940).
Javakhishvili’s voluminous works heavily influenced the modern scholarship of the history and culture of Georgia.
The Tbilisi State University also granted an Ivane Javakhishvili Medal to Alexander Rondeli, the president of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, during the ceremony.
