TEHRAN -- Iranian documentarian Mehrdad Oskuii said that his team traveled to the quake-stricken regions in East Azarbaijan to continue shooting “The Cradle”, a documentary which he is making about child victims of earthquakes.
He began making the documentary in 1990 when a major earthquake devastated the towns of Manjil and Rudbar and many villages in the northern Iranian province of Gilan.
The documentary also covers several other big quakes that have occurred in Iran over the past 20 years.
“The project depicts the sorrow the quake-stricken children experience in losing their family members. It shows their suffering and the vague and uncertain future that awaits them,” Oskuii told the Persian service of ISNA on Wednesday.
“The documentary begins with the image of several children who survived the Rudbar earthquake. The team calls on them several years later in their young adulthood and again several years later when they are grown up,” Oskuii said.
“It is interesting for us to see how the children try to make their future dependent on no one, despite the pain they bear in their hearts,” he added.
Ashkan Ashkani, Reza Daryanush, Farshid Faraji and Hassan Shabankareh are collaborating with Oskuii on this project.
