TEHRAN -- Works of French composer Achille-Claude Debussy (1862–1918) will be discussed during a meeting at the Book City Institute in Tehran this evening.
The meeting is part of the Coffee and Music program, which the institute has organized to scrutinize works by world-renowned musicians and composers, the institute announced in a press release.
Iranian composer and a teacher of the history of music Kaveh Kateb will deliver a lecture and tracks of Debussy’s music will be played at the meeting, which will begin on 6 p.m.
The Book City Institute has previously held meetings for composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederic François Chopin.
Debussy was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music, though he himself intensely disliked the term when applied to his compositions.
In France, he was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1903. A crucial figure in the transition to the modern era in Western music, he remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers.
His music is noted for its sensory component and for not often forming around one key or pitch. Often Debussy’s work reflected the activities or turbulence in his own life.
