TEHRAN -- Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has saved the 7th edition of the Parvin Etesami Film Festival from being shut down after providing the necessary funds to hold the event, which is dedicated to Iranian women’s films and female filmmakers.
The Iran Cinema Organization, which is affiliated with the Culture Ministry, announced early last week that the organization would not be able to hold the festival due lack of funds.
“However Culture Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini said that his office has provided the necessary money to hold the event, festival secretary Maziar Rezakhani told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday.
He said that the culture ministry believes that the Parvin Etesami Film Festival is the most important event, which is dedicated to Iranian women’s films.
Established in 2007, the festival was named after Parvin Etesami (1907-1940), one of the most prominent Persian poets during the 20th century.
Rezakhani said that over 800 female directors are making films in Iran and added, “The female directors are more acquainted with daily concerns and problems of the society.”
This year’s festival, which will be held in Tehran from February 19 to 22, will focus on the role of woman in the economy of the family.
