TEHRAN -- Thirty-two Iranian artists have donated some of their works to the United Nations World Food Program to raise funds to fight hunger.

The works were unveiled during a ceremony in an exhibit at the Diplomatic Gallery of the ECO Cultural Institute in Tehran on Wednesday evening.

“WFP has organized this exhibition to thank the artists,” said director of the WFP Country Office in Iran Negar Gerami during the ceremony.

She also said that her office has entered into talks with a UN office in Rome to offer the artworks during a benefit exhibit.

Filmmaker Khosro Sinaii, vocalist Shahram Nazeri, actor Hamid Farrokjnejad and actress Fatemeh Motamed-Aria were among the guests invited to the ceremony.

“There many references to the Ahriman forces and the Ahura army in our culture during ancient times and I think artists are always in the Ahura army,” Sinaii said in a short speech.

“We enjoy the instrument of art to show the world that humanity is always alive and the Ahura army will finally win,” he added.

The ceremony then went on with a short speech by Motamed-Aria, who is an ambassador of the Mehrafarin Charity Society.

“In such a meeting, I feel I exist, because here every look and move is full of humanity, affection and art,” she said.
