“No Entry for Men” by Rambod Javan, “Here without Me” by Bahram Tavakkoli, and “Mr. Yusef” by Ali Rafiei will be competing for prizes to be presented at a closing ceremony, which will be held tomorrow.
A screen adaptation of Tennessee Williams’s “A Glass Menagerie”, “Here without Me” is about Yalda, a kind, pretty and gentle girl who is ashamed of her limp.
“No Entry for Men” is about an all-girl high school that has never permitted a man to cross the threshold, but spinster principal Ms. Darabi is forced to hire a male substitute teacher to coach her chemistry team for the big tournament against an all-boys school.
“Mr. Yusef” narrates the life of a man who has been working in peoples’ houses for the last five years but his daughter is not aware of her father’s job. However, an event in one of the houses affects his family life.
Over 160 films by directors from more that 45 countries compete at the festival. The retrospectives were on films by renowned filmmakers Hou Hsao-Hsien from Taiwan and Aki Karasmaki from Finland.
