TEHRAN -- A young Iranian director said his animation “A Photo as a Souvenir” about the U.S. spy drone, which was downed by the Iranian armed forces along the eastern border in December 2011, mocks the United States’ espionage capabilities.
“The U.S. saber-rattling through its drones should be mocked by making such films,” Mohammad-Amin Emami told the Persian service of MNA on Friday.
“This animation takes a scornful and satirical view on the U.S. spy drone,” he added.
The animation is about a U.S. spy drone that enters Iran through Afghanistan and is captured by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. They load up the drone’s camera with photos of the U.S. defeat in “Operation Eagle Claw” in which a number of American servicemen were trying to rescue their compatriots captured at the U.S. embassy in Tehran in November 1979.
“A Photo as a Souvenir” and five other animations about the U.S. spy drone were released by the Study Center for the Cultural Front of the Islamic Revolution, a nongovernmental Iranian organization, last week.
The animations have been produced to commemorate the first anniversary of downing the Lockheed-Martin RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone in Iran, the center announced in a press release.
The animations include “Iranian Kids” directed by Sanaz Baqer, “Super High-Tech” by Hamidreza Sheikhbaqeri, “Qandahar Monster” by Mehran Heidari, “Chef” by Yasser Mohaddesi and “This Disruptive Mosquito” by Ziba Arjang.
