Asian Art Biennale honors Iranian artist Sadeq Tirafkan

TEHRAN -- The Iranian conceptual artist Sadeq Tirafkan has won an honorable mention at the 15th edition of the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh.
 
The winners were announced during the opening ceremony of the event, which was held at the Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Saturday.
 
Tirafkan was honored for his mixed media artwork entitled “Human Tapestry”, a combination of digital photography and hand-woven coarse carpet.
 
He was not able to attend the ceremony and his sculptor compatriot Kambiz Sabri accepted the honorable mention on his behalf.
 
Works by Sabri and Iranian painter Morteza Asadi have also been showcased at the biennale.
 
Bangladeshi artist Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed won the Grand Prize in the mixed media category. The Grand Prize in the photography category went to Palestinian artist Bashar Al Hroub, and the Japanese artist Meiro Koizumi received the Grand Prize in the video installation category. 
 
Iranian artist Abdolmajid Hosseini-Rad is on the biennale jury, which also includes Quyyam Chowdhury and Mainuddin Khaled form Bangladesh, Dorothee Brill from Germany, and Jinsang Yoo from South Korea.
 
Works from Nepal, China, Thailand, Pakistan, Egypt,  Chile, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Romania, Turkey, Italy, Saudi Arabia and many other countries are on display at the exhibition.
