Iranian, Polish puppet shows share Warsaw festival prize

TEHRAN -- The puppet shows “The Earth and the Universe” from Iran and “Louder!” from Poland have shared a top prize of at A Puppet Is a Human Too, an international festival of puppet theaters and movie animation for adults which was held in Warsaw.
 
The plays jointly received the Expression of a Theater by the Puppet Award at the event, which was held from November 14 to 20.
 
Led by Zahra Sabri, Yase Tamam troupe performed the play in the festival and dedicated the performance to the Iranian celebrated director Ali Rafiei.
 
Puppeteers Roxana Bahram, Fatemeh Abbasi and Mona Sarbandi and assistant director Zohreh Baratlu accompanied Sabri during the performance.
 
“The Earth and the Universe” is an adaptation of seven stories from the Masnavi-ye Manavi, the magnum opus of the Iranian poet and mystic Jalal ad-Din Rumi.
 
“Louder!” by Marcin Bartnikowski and Marcin Bikowski is an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”, deals with the aftermath of 9/11 attacks as seen by a child.
 
Fifteen productions by theater troupes from nine countries including Iran, Norway, Canada and Italy competed in the festival.
