TEHRAN -- A center for the Iranian studies has opened at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).
SISU President Cao Deming and a number of Iranian diplomats attended the opening ceremony of the center, which was held on Tuesday evening, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Wednesday.
The study of Iran is one of the important subjects of the Orientalism, Cao said in a short speech at the ceremony.
He added that the study of Iran has begun in china since the period of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 CE) and it has received boost over the centuries.
The center could help the expansion of cultural exchange between Iran and China, he stated.
Cao also expressed his thanks to Iran for the establishment of a Persian language department, which opened in 1997 in the SISU.
