TEHRAN -- A number of celebrated stage and screen stars will perform play readings to raise funds for earthquake victims in East Azarbaijan Province.

The readings, which have been organized by the Iranian Theater Forum, will be held at the Andisheh Cultural Center from December 5 to 9, the executive manager of the program told the Persian service of MNA on Tuesday.

“We are approaching winter. Due to the bitter cold in the quake-stricken regions in East Azarbaijan and the lack of necessary facilities, the program was arranged to remind everybody of our compatriots’ need for help,” Maryam Rahimi said.

Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Behzad Farahani, Sirus Ebrahimzadeh and Saeid Pursamimi will direct the readings and the cast.  The schedule will be announced later, she added.

All the money raised by the program will be donated to the quake victims in East Azarbaijan.

Two large quakes hit regions in East Azarbaijan on August 11. At least 12 villages were totally leveled by the quakes, which killed 306 people. 425 other villages also sustained damage ranging from 50 to 80 percent.
