TEHRAN – Russian animator Aleksandr Petrov, who won the Academy Award for Animated Short Film in 1999 for his “The Old Man and the Sea”, has been invited to hold workshops at the 9th Tehran International Animation Festival, which will be held from March 8 to 12.
Several workshops with Iranian animators have also been arranged during the event, director of the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) as organizer of the event said in a press conference here on Monday.
Alireza Hajianzadeh added that 150 works from 74 countries have been selected to go on screen in the international section of the gala.
The names of the animations and the countries were not given in the report.
Over 130 works have also been chosen to go on screen in Iran’s main competition section, he added.
He also said that a special session has been dedicated to review of students’ theses with the central theme of animations.
An exhibition of contemporary art displaying paintings, graphic designs and animation arts will also be held on the sidelines of the program, secretary of the festival Mohammadreza Karimi Saremi said.
A market offering animation productions by 30 companies will also open on the sidelines of the festival, he added.
The animations are scheduled to go on screen in seven different theaters across the city.
