TEHRAN -- Kufic script will be discussed during a meeting at Tehran’s Eyvan Gallery on November 30.

Several scholars and academics will deliver speeches at the meeting entitled “The World of Kufic Script: Historical Secrets, Modern Demands”.

University professor and calligraphy scholar Hamidreza Qelichkhani will give a speech on the elegance of Kufic script used in decorations in New Delhi’s Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque.

Calligraphy scholar Ehsanollah Shokrollahi will talk about Kufic script in Persian literature.

Art scholar Iraj Naeimaii, university professor Ali Imani, and graphic designers Masud Nejabati and Bahram Kalhornia are scheduled to lecture at the meeting.

An exhibition of Kufic calligraphy will be held on the sidelines of the meeting.

Kufic is the oldest calligraphic form of the various Arabic scripts. Its name is derived from the city of Kufa, Iraq.

At the time of the emergence of Islam, this type of script was already in use in various parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Eyvan Gallery is located on 25 Kaman Alley, south of the intersection of Shahid Haqqani and Africa Blvd.
