TEHRAN -- A group of Egyptian cineastes, which arrived in Tehran last week, visited the Iranian minister of culture and Islamic guidance on Wednesday evening.

Potentials for expansion of relations were discussed between the Egyptian delegation and Mohammad Hosseini, the Persian service of MNA reported.

Iran finds contentment in the changes that have occurred in Egypt over the past two years, Hosseini said during the meeting.

“Egypt enjoys a rich history of civilization and also has a strong influence over the world of Islam and Arabs. Thus, we were seeking to expand relations with the country,” he added.

“I believe that if Iran and Egypt stand united together, the Islamic nations and even the world will benefit from this union,” he stated.

Hosseini said that establishing connections between Iranian and Egyptian cineastes could result in the production of profound works in the world and added, “Thus, we could be a serious rival for Hollywood and Zionism, which enjoys the full benefit of the cinema industry and the media.”

No Iranian cineaste, except actor Medi Faqih, attended the meeting.

The Egyptian delegation, which has been invited by the Iran Cinema Organization (ICO), has previously met ICO Director Javad Shamaqdari.

ICO has not published the names of the members of the Egyptian delegation.

However, Lebanon’s Hezbollah-owned Al-Manar television station had previously said that director Aly Badrkhan, actors Sameh Al-Sariti, Abdel Aziz Makhyoun and Ashraf Abdul Ghafoor, cameraman Mahmud Abdul Sami, musician Iman El-Bahr Darwish and producer Mohammad Fouzi were among the cineastes visiting Iran.
