President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini and several other officials attended the event.
The celebration is part of the programs arranged for the Iranian Book Week, which is annually held from November 10 to 17.
Ahmadinejad delivered a short speech at the opening ceremony of the celebration.
He said that librarians play a key role in the development of book reading in the society.
“In fact, a library is meaningless without a librarian. A librarian is a wise cultural physician who guides book readers,” Ahmadinejad added.
A total of 65 librarians from different cities of Iran were honored during the celebration.
Iran Public Libraries Foundation Director Mansur Vaezi and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Director Seyyed Ezzatollah Zarghami were also in attendance during the ceremony.
