Fajr Intl. Theater Festival to open in Tehran today

TEHRAN – The 33rd Fajr International Theater Festival will open at Tehran’s theaters today.
 
Over 80 theater troupes from Iran and other countries will perform during the festival, which runs until February 1.
 
Twenty-one plays will compete in the national section of the festival.
 
Twenty-five theater troupes from Iran and other countries will go on stage in the international section. Most of the troupes are from Iran.
 
Over 60 plays selected to be performed at the festival have been written by Iranian dramatists.
 
The organizers of the festival have previously asked Iranian troupes to put their focuses on the Iranian culture and Eastern identity in their plays. 
 
“Flight over the City” by Narine Grigoryan from Armenia and “Odyssey Complex” by Felix Mathias Ott from Germany and three other plays from Oman, Russia and the Netherlands will also compete in this section. 
 
The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati sent a message for the opening of the festival.
 
In his message, he called theater a practical way to improve culture, beliefs and values personally and socially.
