TEHRAN – A Persian translation of Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges’ “Cartas del Fervor”, which contains his letters to friends, has been published in Persian in Tehran.

The book was unveiled during a ceremony at the Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran on Friday.

Translator Najmeh Shobeiri, who is also the director of the Spanish Language Department of the Translation Office of the Art Bureau, Saed Meski, the director of the publisher of the book Meshki Publications, and writer and critic Amir-Ali Nojumian attended the ceremony.

The book contains unpublished letters that Luis Borges sent to his friends Maurice Abramowicz and Jacobo Sureda over the nine years between 1919 and 1928.

“The beautiful book is worth reading several times,” Nojumian said during a short speech at the ceremony.

“Letters of an author portray a significant aspect of the author, actually the important aspect of his character that is not observed in his works,” he added.

“Luis Borges has had problems with a stable identity during his life and tried to break and question his ego. There has been no sign of a smooth identity in his life, and I dare say works by Borges reveal conversations between different egos existing within his personality,” Nojumian stated.

According to publisher Saed Meshki, the book required four years to be published.
