TEHRAN – Iranian sculptor Maryam Ashkanian is among the finalists of the Biennial of the Frontiers (Bienal de las Fronteras), which is held in Mexico City, Mexico.

Her works are competing at the biennial with pieces by 14 artists from around the world.

The artworks have been selected from 1628 submissions from 58 countries and the winners will be announced on February 26, 2015.

Ashkanian, 25, used textiles to create the sculptures, which have been submitted to the event.

A selection of works will go on display during an exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Tamaulipas (MACT) in Mexico City during March 2015.

The Biennial of the Frontiers seeks to become a space in which creation, imagination and the analysis and dissemination of contemporary art explores the established frontiers of contemporary art practices in Mexico and abroad.
