TEHRAN -- The stylish Iranian pop star Farzad Farzin filled in for the late singer Morteza Pashaii at a concert in Toronto in order to avoid cancelation of the program.

Pashaii died on November 14 at the age of 30 after battling stomach cancer. Due to Pashaii’s death, his concert, which was set for November 29 at the John Bassett Theatre, was expected to be cancelled.

However Persia Film Inc., a Canada-based film production and distribution company, which was the organizer of the program, asked Farzin to fill in for Pashaii at the concert.

At the beginning part of the concert, which was held at the John Bassett Theatre on Saturday night, Farzin performed “You’re Worry about Me”, one of Pashaii’s greatest hits, the Persian service of FNA reported on Tuesday.

Canada’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Chris Alexander also attended the gig and delivered a short speech.

He expressed his thanks to organizers of the concert and gave the Canadian government’s special mention to Pashaii’s brother, Mostafa, who was also in attendance at the program.

“Morteza had said he would perform the concert even if he was in a wheelchair and Mr. [Shahrokh] Bahrololumi [director of Persia Film Inc.] didn’t cancel the program after the death of Morteza and Farzad Farzin kept the flag flying for Morteza and Iranian music at this hall,” Mostafa said at the concert.

The concert was extended at the request of the audience.
