TEHRAN – An Iranian theater troupe plans to donate the entire box office receipts of its Tuesday performance of Anton Chekhov’s “The Bear” for the benefit of orphans.
Esmaeil Shafiei’s troupe has performed the play at the Sayeh Hall of Tehran’s City Theater Complex since July 8.
The play is about Mrs. Popov who is determined to mourn faithfully her unfaithful husband while Smirnov, an equally determined creditor, is bent on hounding the widow for the repayment of his loan.
Asghar Hemmat, Leila Barkhordair, Marjan Qamari, Hamed Poshtiban and Mehdi Zaminpardaz are members of the cast for the play.
