TEHRAN -- A cultural exhibition, which has been organized by the German Embassy in Tehran, opened at the Iran National Library and Archives (INLA) on Tuesday.

A number of rare German books and a collection of German calligraphy of Persian poems by Sadi and Hafez have been put on display in an exhibit entitled “Art, a Bridge Between Cultures”, the Persian service of FNA reported on Tuesday.

A German delegation led by Ambassador Bernd Erbel and INLA Director Es’haq Salahi and his colleagues attended the opening ceremony of the show on Tuesday.

Among the books on display at the exhibit is a German translation of Sadi’s “Gulistan”, which dates back to 1661.

The collection also includes books printed with offset lithography.

“Iran and Germany enjoy a long history of cultural relations,” Salahi said during the opening ceremony.

“The INLA is ready to participate in other joint programs in the future,” he added.

Erbel called the INLA an extraordinary organization and expressed his hope that German experts on Iranian studies could find an opportunity to use the resources of the library.

Salahi presented Erbel with a German translation of Rumi’s Masnavi-e Manavi and afterward the German delegation paid a visit to various sections of the library.
