TEHRAN -- Director Dariush Mehrjuii plans to make a sequel to “The Santur Player” to erase the bad memories of the controversial film.
“In fact, I want to erase the bitter memory of not premiering the film from my mind,” he told the Persian service of MNA on Tuesday.
Mehrjuii said that the story of “The Santur Player 2” will in the line with the subject of “The Santur Player”.
“The Santur Player” was produce in 2007. However, the film was pirated before its premiere. The then officials of the Culture Ministry had already delayed the premiere of the film several times.
“The Santur Player” producer Faramarz Farazmand accused the Culture Ministry of the act of piracy.
The screening of the film, which was about a drug addict santur virtuoso and singer, had also been postponed several times during the 2007 Fajr Film Festival. However, it was finally showcased with its songs censored, allegedly to show respect for the mourning season of Muharram.
Afterwards, the Culture Ministry refused to give the film a screening license because Mohsen Chavoshi sang the songs.
The ministry said that the songs had not been approved by its relevant departments for musical affairs.
As a result, the composer of the film’s music, Ardavan Kamkar, had to record the songs using the voice of Bahram Radan, the leading actor in the film.
