TEHRAN -- The Complutense University of Madrid will host a seminar on Persian poet Sadi and Spanish author Cervantes on October 28 and 29.
Eleven Iranian and Spanish experts on Sadi and Cervantes have been invited to discuss their latest studies about the two literary figures at the seminar, which has been organized by Tehran’s Book City Institute.
This seminar is a return colloquium that the Book City Institute held on Sadi and Cervantes in mid April 2014 in Tehran.
The deputy director of the Book City Institute, Ali-Asghar Mohammadkhani, along with Persian language scholars Zia Movahhed, Saeid Hushangi, Taher Qasemi, Kurosh Kamali and Roya Sadr will deliver speechs during the seminar.
The seminar will also host Spanish academics José Manuel Lucía Megías, Ignacio Díez, Ángel García Galiano, Enrique Ortíz and Joaquín Rodríguez.
The University of Alcalá has also invited the Iranian literati to visit the birthplace of Cervantes Alcalá de Henares, Mohammadkhani said in a press release.
The Iranian scholars are scheduled to meet groups of Iranologists and Persian language professors at the University of Madrid and the University of Barcelona, he added.
The seminar is also supported by Iran’s Center for the Study of Sadi, the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), and the Complutense University of Madrid.
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616) was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. His magnum opus “Don Quixote” is considered to be the first modern European novel and is regarded among the best works of fiction ever written.
Sheikh Muslih od-Din Sadi Shirazi (C. 1213-1291) is one of the greatest figures of classical Persian literature, famous worldwide for his Bustan (The Orchard) and Gulistan (The Rose Garden).
