TEHRAN -- Music for “Che”, a film about the Iranian veteran Mostafa Chamran, will be recorded in Ukraine, said composer Behzad Abdi on Tuesday.

Shooting is underway on location in Paveh, a town in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah. Abdi has accompanied the film crew since July to draw inspiration from the environment for his task.

“Being in such a region influences everybody. The surrounding mountains… have witnessed great events, which should be reflected in the music,” Abdi told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency.

He said that he would also do his best to consider the personality of Chamran in composing the music for the film, which is being helmed by Ebrahim Hatamikia, the director of acclaimed films “From Karkheh to Rhine” and “Low Height”.

“Due to the geography of the region where the film is set, we will have a certain arrangement. However, we should wait to see where the film goes to lead the music to that direction,” he added.

Abdi said that shooting will last for a month and afterwards his work will really commence.

He gave no details about recoding the film’s music in Ukraine. A number of Iranian composers have previously collaborated with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.

“Che” will depict 48 hours of Chamran’s life on August 16 and 17, 1979. Fariborz Arabnia plays the role of Chamran in the film.

Babak Hamidian, Merila Zarei, Saeid Rad, Esmaeil Soltanian and Amir-Reza Delavari are the other main members of the cast.

The film will be produced under the auspices of the Farabi Cinematic Foundation, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Chamran was commander of several military operations in the warzones of Kordestan and Khuzestan regions during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. He was killed in a mortar attack in the Dehlavieh region near Ahvaz in 1981.

He had completed his Ph.D. in electronics and plasma physics with excellent grades from the University of California at Berkeley.
