TEHRAN – The plan of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) for a museum of fine arts in Shiraz was discussed during a meeting between Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja and Shiraz Mayor Alireza Pak-Fetrat on Monday.
“Aalto, a central figure in international modernism, designed a plan for the museum in 1969, and we would be pleased if the museum would be built using his design,” Tuomioja said during the meeting.
He added that Finish architects are eager to study the plan and to cooperate with Iranian architects.
He also expressed hope that the two countries would expand their cultural relations.
Earlier in his trip, Tuomioja described Iran-Finland relations as deep-rooted “because of the numerous common interests they share” and expressed hope that the atmosphere would become ripe for the expansion of relations.
