Iranian voice actors of Akkad’s “Message” honored

 

TEHRAN – A large number of Iranian voice actors who had lent their voices to the major characters of “The Message”, Moustapha Akkad’s epic about the birth of Islam, were honored during a ceremony at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on Thursday.

 

Nasser Medqalchi, who had lent his voice to Michael Ansara as Abu Sufyan, Manuchehr Esmaeili (Anthony Quinn as Hamza), Jalal Maqami (Andre Morell as Abu Talib), Siamak Atlasi (George Camiller as Al-Waleed), and Mohammad-Ali Dibaj (Earl Cameron as Al-Najashi) were among the voice actors who were honored.

 

Tributes were also paid to Persian translator of the film script Hossein Shayegan and Moustapha Akkad’s advisor Hamid Mojtahedi, the IAF announced in a press release on Friday.

 

IAF director Majid Sarsangi made brief remarks at the ceremony and called dubbing in Iran a type of new writing and recreation of the film’s original language.

 

The dubbing directors of Iran have in depth knowledge of the Persian language and are able to choose the just right words that are closest to the language of the film, and they have created enduring dubbings over the past years, he added.

 

 

“Dubbing of this film was done with the full cooperation of friends and colleagues. It took days and nights to find and select the proper dubbers for the right characters,” Esmaili said in his short speech on stage.

 

Jalal Maqami also on stage called dubbing of the film a different experience. “This film for those of us who are Muslims was something different,” he said.

 

Produced in 1977, the well done historical epic concerns the birth of the Islamic faith and the story of Prophet Muhammad (S).

 

Part of the film was screened for the participants along with the voice of the deceased voice actors of the project including Azar Daneshi, Parviz Narenjiha and Hossein Memarzadeh.
