TEHRAN – The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance met with a large group of Iranian journalists on Thursday, one day before Iran’s Journalists Day.
Culture Minister Ali Jannati delivered a speech at the meeting.
Journalists play a major role in awakening the society and the culture ministry will support journalists within the limits of the law, Jannati said.
He added that the ministry has been moderate with the various media, artists, and art and cultural figures during the administration of President Hassan Rouhani.
He also pointed to the emphasis that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has placed on the promotion of culture over the past years and said that his ministry will make its best efforts to achieve goals.
In addition, he stressed that the media must be honest in its publication of the news and avoid distortion of the facts.
Newspapers and other periodicals need to enrich their contents if they are worried about being replaced by electronic media, Jannati said.
He also talked about the social security benefits of journalists and said that some good changes will happen to the fund dedicated to journalists.
