TEHRAN – The Iran Peace and Friendship Film Festival was inaugurated in Hiroshima on Tuesday.
The festival has been organized by Iran and Japan to commemorate the atomic bombardment of the Japanese city on August 6 in 1945.
A lineup of Iranian films, which highlight the wounds caused by the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, is scheduled to be screened during the festival.
The films are “Gilaneh” directed by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, “Track 143” by Narges Abyar, “All Alone” by Ehsan Abdipur, “The Night Bus” by Kiumars Purahmad, “The Reward of Silence” by Maziar Miri and “Memories for All Seasons” by Mostafa Razzaq-Karimi.
The festival opened with the reading of Bani-Etemad’s message, in which she had condemned the savage killing of the Palestinians in Gaza.
The participants including a number of Iranian cineastes observed a moment of silence to pay their respects to the victims of the Gaza brutally killed by the Zionist regime.
Some Iranian filmmakers and several war veterans from the Tehran Peace Museum were seen among the participants.
The festival will continue in Tokyo on August 8 and 9.
