TEHRAN - The opening ceremony for an Iranian studies center was held at Government College Township (GCT), Lahore on Tuesday.
The center was established by the Cultural Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lahore.
Punjab Provincial Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Iran’s cultural attaché, Abbas Famuri, and a number of academics attended the ceremony.
Iqbal Khan described relations between Iran and Pakistan as good and expressed his satisfaction over the establishment of the center in the city.
He said that the center would help Pakistani people increase their knowledge about Iran and the Persian language.
The center has been established to introduce modern Iran to Pakistan, Famuri said during the ceremony.
The center, along with several Iranian studies chambers working in Pakistani universities, will hold courses for the Persian language, and art and cultural festivals to familiarize Pakistanis with Iran.
GCT Principal Muhammad Ijaz Butt also gave an address at the ceremony.
He said that the Persian language is a historical language of the region and added that many scholars have carried out major studies on the Pakistani poet Allama Iqbal (1877-1938), who wrote his poems in Persian and Urdu.
There are also plans to hold courses on Persian calligraphy and painting at the center in the near future.
