TEHRAN -- Iranian filmmaker Mojtaba Raei plans to put the spotlight on the fraternity between the Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Rumi and his tutor Shams of Tabriz in his new film.

The film entitled “The Drunken Peacock” will be produced jointly by Iran and Turkey, he told the Persian service of MNA on Tuesday.

The joint production is part of the cultural agreements signed between the two countries in June when President Hassan Rouhani paid a visit to Ankara.

Raei, who has recently completed writing the screenplay, said, “The screenplay is a modern approach to Rumi’s mysticism.”

“It can be the first step in cinematic collaboration between Iran and Turkey. Rumi’s tomb is located in Konya in Turkey and the tomb of Shams is situated in the Iranian town of Khoy and everybody knows about the fraternity between Rumi and Shams… Therefore, I wrote the screenplay, which introduces the culture in Iran and Turkey between the lines,” he added.

Iran’s proposal to record “The Shams of Tabriz Opera” in Turkey has recently been welcomed by Turkey.

The opera has been composed by Iranian musician and conductor Loris Tjeknavorian.
