TEHRAN -- The 17th International Festival of University Theater, which opened in Tehran on Saturday, is currently hosting a number of Polish theater scholars from the Studio Rosa, who are scheduled to hold workshops.

Grzegorz Ziolkowski, Maciej Zakrzewski, and Maria Bohdziewicz will hold the workshops, which will focus on ATIS -- Acting Techniques Intensive Seminar.

ATIS, which is of a highly practical and exploratory nature, aims at studying elementary and advanced skills of the performer such as the abilities to be open to dialogue, to integrate action, speech and song, and to react swiftly and precisely to impulses which come from various sources: partners, texts, images, music, space and the inner realms of associations, imagination and memories.

Ziolkowski is a theater teacher, director, editor, translator and author. He is a professor at the Drama, Theater and Performance Department of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

His research fields include actor techniques, anthropology of performances and Asian performative cultures.

Bohdziewic, a graduate of the Adam Mickiewicz University in theater studies, and Zakrzewski, an actor and theater researcher, are collaborating with Ziolkowski during the workshops.

Some of the techniques employed during the course relate to or are inspired by influential contemporary Polish theater directors who centered their work on performers like Jerzy Grotowski, Tadeusz Kantor and Wlodzimierz Staniewski with the Center for Theater Practices Gardzienice.

The festival will come to an end on May 17.
