Kiarostami will make “Horizontal Process” in Italy, Ramin Rahimi told the Persian service of ILNA on Monday.
Rahimi denied a report published by the blog site Playlist on October 10 claiming Kiarostami planned to make his next film in Israel and said that Playlist had mistaken Italy for Israel.
Playlist published a correction after Kiarostami sent a letter to the editors to complain about the mistake, Rahimi said.
Certain Persian news websites published Playlist’s false report and criticized Kiarostami for planning to make his next film in Israel, which Iran views as an archenemy.
On October 16, Playlist published a correction, reading, “We regret that incorrect information ran in an interview with director Abbas Kiarostami on Oct. 10. Due to a transcription error, the location of Kiarostami’s next film project was incorrectly stated as Israel when in fact it is Italy. We apologize for any problems this may have caused.”
In a report Variety published in May 2012, Kiarostami said that “Horizontal Process” would be shot in the Apulia region of Italy.
At a press conference at the Bari Film Festival earlier this year, he explained his attraction for Apulia, saying he loves “the complex architecture of the various cities, which conveys the complexity of the people who live there.”
