TEHRAN -- The 8th Fajr International Poetry Festival plans to invite the German Nobel laureate Günter Grass as a guest of honor at this year’s festival, which will be held in early May 2014.

The festival also plans to invite Rifaat Salam from Syria, Muhammad Al-Shallah from Iraq, Coleman Barks from the U.S. and Michel Deguy from France, festival secretary Abdoljabbar Kakaii told the Persian service Tasnim on Monday.

Günter Wilhelm Grass is a German novelist, poet, playwright, illustrator, graphic artist, sculptor and recipient of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature.

He is widely regarded as Germany’s most famous living writer. Grass is best known for his first novel, “The Tin Drum” (1959), a key text in European magical realism, and the first part of his “Danzig Trilogy”, which also includes “Cat and Mouse” and “Dog Years”.

Many of his books were translated into Persian and were warmly welcomed by the book readers.
