TEHRAN – The Persian translation of horror novella “Boy in Darkness” written by the British author Mervyn Peake has been published in Iran.
“Boy in Darkness” is an episode in the Gormenghast series by the author, in which Titus Groan, referred to mostly as “the Boy” in the story, is a young teenager – placing it in the period covered by the second novel of the series, Gormenghast.
Yearning for freedom from his ceaseless duties as 77th Earl of Gormenghast, he escapes from the ancient castle and encounters the nightmare world outside.
Peake (1911–1968) was also an artist, poet and illustrator. He is best known for what are usually referred to as the Gormenghast books. The three works were part of what Peake conceived as a lengthy cycle, the completion of which was prevented by his death, and consequently should not be considered a trilogy.
