TEHRAN – The Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) and the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) will hold a joint retrospective on Iranian cinema in spring 2014.

Entitled “The History of Iranian Cinema by Its Creators”, the event will be launched by the 28th edition of Fribourg International Film Festival in March 2014.

The retrospective will review 27 titles by 14 major Iranian directors, which were made from 1933 to 2006, the FIFF recently announced on its website.

Kaveh Bakhtiari, Bahram Beyzaie, Asghar Farhadi, Bahman Ghobadi, Shahram Mokri and Amir Naderi will be among the directors whose movies will go on screen during the event.

The complete list of titles to be screened will be revealed at FIFF’s line-up press conference on March 12, 2014.

The Cinemathèque Suisse (National Film Archives) will also, simultaneously with FIFF, screen part of this historical event.

The 68th Edinburgh International Film Festival will continue the program, introducing further retrospective selections by contemporary Iranian filmmakers together with new works.

“The series promises a powerful re-writing of film history through the recovery and re-affirmation of neglected connections. Film festivals have a great responsibility to the past heritage and the current and future understanding of cinema,” Artistic Director of EIFF Chris Fujiwara mentioned in a press release on the FIFF website.

The 28th edition of Fribourg International Film Festival will run from March 29 to April 5 2014 and the 68th Edinburgh International Film Festival will run from June 18 to 29, 2014.
