TEHRAN -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has initially agreed to register three Iranian occasions on its celebration list of anniversaries for 2014 and 2015, the director of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO announced on Tuesday.
The occasions are the 800th birth anniversary of Persian Sufi Najmuddin Kubra, the 800th birth anniversary of Persian poet and writer Fakhr ad-Din Ibrahim Iraqi, and the 600th birth anniversary of Iranian theoretician and musician Abd ul-Qadir Maraghi, Mohammadreza Saeidabadi announced in a press conference.
UNESCO will announce the final decision during a session scheduled to be held in November, he added.
The 1000th anniversary of the compilation of Iranian physician and philosopher Avicenna’s Kirab al-Qanun fi at-Tibb (The Canon of Medicine), which is among the most famous books in the history of medicine, has been registered on UNESCO’s 2013 celebration list of anniversaries.
In addition, the 1000th anniversary of the achievements of Iranian writer and philosopher Abu Saeid Ab al-Kheir, and the 1,100th anniversary of the compilation of the prominent work of Iranian explorer and geographer Ahmad ibn Rustah, Kitab al-Alaq al-Nafisa are on the list.
