Speaking at a meeting with a group of poets and cultural figures, the Leader said, “Poetry is one of the most outstanding of all the arts. Poets have a great responsibility toward the major issues of the country, and the great historical and inspiring movement of the Islamic Revolution. They should use this profound and undying art form to discharge these responsibilities.”
He asked them to emphasize “Islamic teachings and lifestyle, philosophical thoughts, and all topics necessary for education” in their works.
The leader described “emotions”, “discontentment” and “philosophical thought” as the three main sources of inspiration for poets, and urged poets to give increased attention to “philosophical thought”.
A group of poets read their latest works during the meeting, which was also attended by a number of Persian-speaking poets from India, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The Leader also hosted the literati for iftar, the evening meal for breaking the dawn-to-dusk daily fast during the month of Ramadan.
The meeting of the Leader and literati on the eve of the birthday of Imam Hassan (AS) has become a tradition.
